The safety of children is our paramount 

Shannon AC holds the safety and well-being of children and vulnerable adults as a top priority.  Ensuring the welfare and safeguarding of these groups is of utmost importance in our sporting activities. In alignment with Athletics Ireland guidelines, as well as national laws, policies, and the principles set forth in Children First, we have crafted comprehensive safeguarding policies to uphold this commitment.

Role and responsibilities of the Children's Officer 

In accordance with national guidelines, the Club's Committee has named a member of the Club's Committee to serve as the Club's Children's Officer (CCO). For the season 2023/24 the Children's Officer is Sinead Lenihan. 

Main roles and responsibilities of CCO are: 

  • Create a child cantered environment and provide the welfare of children and young people engaged in our Club

  • Ensure that children know how and whom they can report their concerns to within the club

  • Acts as a support to Coaches and Sports Leaders on Child Protection issues/concerns

  • Encouraging the participation of parents /guardians within club activities to ensure maximum enjoyment and participation for each child

  • Safe Recruitment and Selection of Coaches and Leaders

  • Act as the Relevant Person with responsibility for the club Child Safeguarding Statement

  • If there are grounds for concern about the safety or welfare of a young person, CCO reacts to the concern
